Experience built over a lifetime
Following his service in the United States Marine Corps, Burl began his career in the building products industry as a millwork salesman with Bass & Company Millwork, serving customers throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. He later held leadership positions with 84 Lumber Company, where he managed operations and helped launch multiple store locations. Through these experiences, he gained extensive expertise in warehouse operations, product sales, management, and customer service. Combined with the discipline, resilience, and determination he developed through military service, these opportunities fostered an entrepreneurial spirit that ultimately led him to establish and operate his own warehouse business in Virginia.
After relocating his family to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1986, Burl built a reputation for quality craftsmanship, dependability, and strong customer relationships throughout the multifamily construction industry. In 1994, he founded Southern Door & Trim, Inc., a company grounded in the principles of craftsmanship, integrity, and hard work. Under his leadership, the company has grown into a highly respected turnkey finish carpentry contractor serving multifamily communities across the Southeast.
While Southern Door & Trim has expanded significantly over the years, the company remains a reflection of Burl's vision, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. His leadership continues to inspire the company's culture and drive its reputation for excellence throughout the industry.
